SOIL and its Role in our Well-being & Future!
Who has seen the remarkable Film Kiss the Ground with Woody Harrelson on the importance of soil in our future?
It has inspired me to write this piece about SOIL and its Role in our Food, Weather and Well-being.
I didn’t know many things about the soil that is crucial for our survival into the future.
For example:
Did you know;
That for every 1% increase in Organic soil matter 10 TONS of CO2 is stored in the soil.
The Soil Environment controls more Carbon than the Air and Plants combined, and that we have an incredible ability to store Carbon in Soil in a relatively short time.
Normal Tilling of soil; you know those tractors or ploughs that dig up soil – actually destroy the Soil and wrecks weather, as this method breaks up and kills the organic microbe filled soil and RELEASES huge amounts of CO2 into the air ultimately creating heat and deserts (e.g., 50’s Dustbowl in US).
An agricultural institute in Europe called INRA who have been researching soil for the last 100 years,
has proposed a Global Solution to reverse global warming! Called 4 for 1000, to store the same amount of carbon the world emits back into the Soil. Many countries signed up EXCEPT the USA, INDIA and China the biggest CO2 emittors. (who invest heavily in Pesticide Chemicals).
There are many ways Farmers can NOT destroy soil by NOT using Tilling, I.e., No Till Drills that keep the soil fertile and Lock Carbon in….See the Hero in the docie who changed his Life and his economic Ruin into prosperity by using Soil Friendly Ranching methods!
We need Change, How can we do this? By Collectively coming together and CREATING CONFEDERATIONS/SOCIAL CHANGE MOVEMENTS demanding for Governments to change and shaming Companies (Mons!nto, Dup!nt Carg!ll) for encouraging the WRECKING OF OUR and our Children’s FUTURE!
Let us Learn to Protect OUR SOILS and Earths Future. Make it your duty to introduce your kids to such docies and educate your children about SOIL and its Role in our Food, Weather and Well-being!
